(19.07.2014) On 19th of July 2014 the first project meeting of the recently started project of djb "European Women Shareholders Demand Gender Equality" took place in Brussels, hosted by the Representation of Saxony-Anhalt to the European Union.

The project team, national coordinators and project partners came together to discuss more in detail the structure of the project and the upcoming steps. The 17 participants of 9 EU Member States shared their experiences with shareholders´ meetings of listed companies in different countries and discussed aspects of the legal basis concerning information rights and the planned visits of shareholders meetings.

The participants drafted a questionnaire that will be the basis of the questions addressed to the boards in 11 Member States. This questionnaire will be further developed in fall 2014 and adapted according to the specific regulations in each country. Moreover, it will be translated in the official language of each participating country.

By the end of the year, capacity building workshops are scheduled with the aim to provide the tandems of women lawyers and documentalists who will visit the shareholders meetings with information, best practices and tools to achieve their purpose. They will learn how to exercise their information rights and how to deal with difficulties. The Finland Chamber of Commerce will advise and share best practice.

In the first half of 2015, approximately 100 visits of shareholders´ meetings will take place in the following countries:  Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, Hungary and the United Kingdom.

The task of bringing together so many Member States to demand gender equality on supervisory and/or managing boards and in other leadership positions is challenging, but djb and all project partners are confident and look forward to the further implementation and the future results of the project.
